I'm not sure who they all are but some names are mentioned including John Wesley Hackworth. These are taken with the photos in between the sleeves with its decoration as opposed to being taken out of the sleeve and scanned as above. Will try and get the photos identified.

This rare book is now available to read online or download free from Google books. Trevor along with Paul tweddell (a descendent of the author) have done quite a bit of research into this Stokesley born 19thC Author / Poet / Printer / Publisher Chartist, People's Historian and freemason. hence the sharing of the relevant part of his work on here.

J.W. Hackworth Advice / Delivery Note from the 1870's. From John Wesley Hackworth's engineering works in Darlington from the 1870's. Calculations on the back. I've added some enlargements of the graphics on the headed paper.
Early Family History by Samuel H. Young from 1912. This was with the letters but not in an envelope and appears to be early family history notes by Samuel H Young, dated 8 / 5 / 12 and is not recent so the year 12 would be 1912! The notes have been appended and ticked along the way so it's obviously been used as a working document in building the family tree.

This was with the letters but not in an envelope and appears to be early family history notes by Samuel H Young, dated 8 / 5 / 12 and is not recent so the year 12 would be 1912! The notes have been appended and ticked along the way so it's obviously been used as a working document in building the family tree.

Family History. Not sure who this was from and who it refers to but it was in Joan's case. It a written piece entitled Families. They are bemoaning the fact that the younger generation aren't interested in the past and knowledge of their family history will die out so they have written about it. It's incomplete but mentions one relative working as a boiler man at Blairs - which i think was originally owned under his own name by Thomas Hackworth. it doesn't seem to be Joan's direct family unless on the other side of the family.

Envelope Addressed to Mrs Tivnann? 1921? (with press cuttings / memorials).
The name of the addressee can be seen on the envelope here and I think the date is 1921, looking at the stamp. The name may be Tivan, as there is another much later letter from a Tivan of Thornaby. Contains Inside the envelope are 2 small cuttings of which this is the first - about the Timothy Hackworth Memorial. The second is memorial notice in the paper to Albert Ernest Hackworth (Bert) who, sadly dies unmarried at the age of 35. Next memorial piece was not with the above material but relates to Albert Ernest Hackworth - from Maud -

62. Family History. Not sure who this was from and who it refers to but it was in Joan's case. It a written piece entitled Families. They are bemoaning the fact that the younger generation aren't interested in the past ond knowledge of their family history will die out so they have written about it. It's incomplete but mentions one relative working as a boiler man at Blairs - which i think was originally owned under his own name by Thomas Hackworth. it doesn't seem to be Joan's direct family unless on the other side of the family.

The name of the addressee can be seen on the envelope here and I think the date is 1921, looking at the stamp. The name may be Tivan, as there is another much later letter from a Tivan of Thornaby. Contains Inside the envelope are 2 small cuttings of which this is the first - about the Timothy Hackworth Memorial. The second is memorial notice in the paper to Albert Ernest Hackworth (Bert) who, sadly dies unmarried at the age of 35. Next memorial piece was not with the above material but relates to Albert Ernest Hackworth - from Maud -

21. Early Family History by Samuel H. Young from 1912. This was with the letters but not in an envelope and appears to be early family history notes by Samuel H Young, dated 8 / 5 / 12 and is not recent so the year 12 would be 1912! The notes have been appended and ticked along the way so it's obviously been used as a working document in building the family tree.

Stockton museum had a video showing which in part covered Timothy hackworth's work and showed that he built the sampson and other engines for Nova Scotia and went on to describe the influence of the railroad on the birth of the blues and it's role in emancipation etc. This picks up on the theme.

I think this cutting is from c 1934 / 5 and concerns the letter which Joan Hackworth Weir finally handed over to the NRM in 2005 from Robert Stephenson.

62. Family History. Not sure who this was from and who it refers to but it was in Joan's case. It a written piece entitled Families. They are bemoaning the fact that the younger generation aren't interested in the past ond knowledge of their family history will die out so they have written about it. It's incomplete but mentions one relative working as a boiler man at Blairs - which i think was originally owned under his own name by Thomas Hackworth. it doesn't seem to be Joan's direct family unless on the other side of the family.

They are related to the family of John Wesley Hackworth and live in Harrogate - The Steyne, Alexander Road. I sourced a photo of the house from Google streetview as it is now.
30. Envelope Addressed to Mrs Tivnann? 1921? (with press cuttings / memorials).
The name of the addressee can be seen on the envelope here and I think the date is 1921, looking at the stamp. The name may be Tivan, as there is another much later letter from a Tivan of Thornaby. Contains Inside the envelope are 2 small cuttings of which this is the first - about the Timothy Hackworth Memorial. The second is memorial notice in the paper to Albert Ernest Hackworth (Bert) who, sadly dies unmarried at the age of 35. Next memorial piece was not with the above material but relates to Albert Ernest Hackworth - from Maud -

Victorian Photo Album Pt 1 Part one- These next three posts are scans of the Victorian photo album (I'm assuming Victorian or Edwardian) with photos of Joan Hackworth's Weir's family - on both the hackworth side and the Williams side. This was with the letters but not in an envelope and appears to be early family history notes by Samuel H Young, dated 8 / 5 / 12 and is not recent so the year 12 would be 1912! The notes have been appended and ticked along the way so it's obviously been used as a working document in building the family tree.

1. Mrs Timothy Hackworth (Jane Hackworth née Golightly)
Small watercolour of Jane Golightly 4" by 5", with a note from Harry Parsons on the whereabouts of a similar one for Timothy Hackworth. Also b/w versions used in Robert Young's book - but is reversed.
