Of the the last three pictures above, The Northern Echo says " Left to right: some of the characters taking part in the tableaux in the procession today. There are six tableaux which will represent the evolution of the wheel in transport from the earliest days to the present time. These characters are of the period of 100 years ago, the time when stephenson began his great work. In the centre is a photograph of John Barand, the first porter employed by the Stockton and Darlington Railway Company at North Road. he was a familiar figure in Darlington and was known as 'Barney' to all and sundry. he died about 25 to 30 years ago -" Northern Echo 1925
