The Pageant of a Century 1933 - Trains in Social History.

Joan loved books and reading. She was a longstanding Cleveland county librarian and campaigned successfully for the establishment of  the Thornaby on Tees branch library. Joan's Hackworth direct relatives had lived in Thornaby for time. This book, published in 1933 and one of many on her bookshelves, came out when Joan would have been about 12. More a picture intensive encyclopedia than a reading book, there are a number of photos of trains, in development or in various social roles. I've scanned some of them here.
